All hell broke loose at a private resort in Mexico on Tuesday evening when at least two people were allegedly electrocuted while using a hot tub. And the immediate aftermath was caught on video, as guests and resort staff could be seen and heard screaming and scrambling to come to the aid of the apparent victims.
According to TMZ, which obtained footage from the scene, the incident occurred at a hotel near Puerto Peñasco, along the Gulf of California. In the video, a large crowd can be seen gathering around the hot tub as one person was dragged out of the water. Another was laid on their back while a bystander began performing CPR chest compressions. Meanwhile, the person who was pulled from the water was fortunately able to stand up and walk away.
Witnesses online who claimed to have seen the incident go down said that the jacuzzi seemed to have had a surge of electricity run through it, though the exact details remain unclear.
KTSM 9 News reports that the victims were an El Paso, TX couple; a 43-year-old man who died from his injuries, and his 35-year-old wife, who was transported back to the United States in critical condition. The General Prosecutor’s Office said that a possible wiring failure may have been to blame for the tragic accident.
A witness who apparently knew the couple said that she became alarmed after noticing that they were no longer moving in the jacuzzi. When they were non-responsive, she attempted to enter the water to help them but also got shocked, and then called for help.
TMZ was likewise in contact with local authorities with the Municipal Public Security Office in Puerto Peñasco. Though an official confirmed that officers had indeed responded to an incident at the unnamed resort, they declined to provide any further details.
