Confirming a long-gestating rumor, global icons Oreo and Coca-Cola are teaming up to release two exclusive, limited-edition products inspired by one another.
Coca-Cola’s new Oreo-flavored Zero Sugar Limited Edition soda will be available at retailers nationwide for a limited time only starting next month. Available right alongside it will be Oreo’s complimentary Coca-Cola-flavored cookie.
Coca-Cola’s Oreo-flavored innovation, officially dubbed “Fizzy-Cookie Flavored” on its can, “features flavorful hints inspired by Oreo cookies.” Meanwhile, Oreo’s Coca-Cola cookie pairs the creamy sandwich cookie everyone adores with “a Coca-Cola taste fans know and love, and popping candies that bring a ‘fizz’ sensation to every bite.”
The cookies are made of two differently flavored “basecakes” sandwiching sweet cola icing. One basecake is a classic chocolate-flavored biscuit infused with Coca-Cola syrup. The other is a golden-flavored cookie dyed red and embossed with Coca-Cola’s logo.
Men’s Journal tried both of the new products and can report they are both what the packages promise. Coca-Cola’s Fizzy Cookie Flavored innovation has some faint cookie notes, though overall it tastes quite similar to Vanilla Coke. Mixing in a bit of heavy whipping cream brings out the cookie notes—sort of like the best cookies-and-cream soda you’ve ever had—though, hardly advisable behavior.
Oreo’s cookies combine with Coke’s tang surprisingly well. The lightly-flavored chocolate biscuit is subtly inflected with hints of Coca-Cola and balances masterfully with its golden-cookie-flavored counterpart. They’re finished with a cream icing—not too hard, but firm and perfect for scooping on its own—which contains mini pop rocks that reverberate through your gums long after the cookies are gone. Unfortunately, they don’t foam when combined with the soda.
To celebrate the fusion of these brand “besties,” Coca-Cola and Oreo are partnering with Spotify to bring you closer to your own best friend. Anyone with a Spotify account can scan the QR code on Coca-Cola or Oreo products and follow the steps to generate a playlist featuring your and your pal’s combined music preferences.
Oreo and Coca-Cola’s exclusive, limited-time collaborations will be available at retailers nationwide beginning on Sept. 9.
